In Case You Missed It: Congresswoman Ross' Plea to Extend the Eviction Moratorium

In a Rules Committee Hearing on Friday, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) spoke in support of extending the eviction moratorium, which expired later that night. This extension will prevent a flood of evictions that could leave millions of families homeless with surging Delta-variant outbreaks across the country.

"We've got to put a pause on this for the sake of public health, for the sake of people's economic well-being, and to give people time to make this transition," said Congresswoman Ross. "Ending the moratorium would have disastrous health effects, and financial effects on our people, and of course on people who would find themselves homeless."

In the last year, Congress has allocated billions to states to aid renters and landlords, and these funds have supported over 68,500 households in need across North Carolina. The U.S. Census Bureau's biweekly Household Pulse Survey found that nearly 4.8 million people could face eviction or foreclosure in the next two months.
